My Run Home from Work - Capitol South to Parkside
Date: Aug 15, 2011
On of my "career goals" working at Heritage was to run/bike to or from work. For a while I thought about the best biking route: 16th street? Rock Creek Park? Capital Crescent? etc. Plus how would I deal with riding on city streets. I finally just decided to forget about the bike and just run it.
The route I choose was about as direct as I could make it. Cut across the Mall, through the Ellipse, up 17th street to Connecticut Ave., and then take Connecticut Ave. all the way past the Beltway. It was similar to my traditional Metro route: Farragut North, Dupont Circle, Woodly Park, Cleveland Park, Van Ness, Tenlytown, etc. Once I got to Beach drive, I was home free. I was fortunate enough to have two water fountain stops. The first was a surprise find in a small triangle park near 18th and M (3 miles), and the second was much later but well-known at Beach and Cedar Lane (11.5 miles). The trip took 2 hours, 5 minutes and covered 13.4 miles.
