30th Year Club Run Anniversary
HARRC celebrated 30 continuous years of club runs by offering a
runner�s choice 2 or 5 mile run at the place where it all started.
More than 65 runners, club members, and friends of HARRC converged on
Riverfront Park at 8:30 a.m. to commemorate 30 years of club runs and
to keep the tradition alive. Past Presidents
Walt Greene, Nick Marshall, and
Rich Krampe offered several stories of
the inaugural run on June 9, 1974. Nick
Marshall started the race with the original starting bell used
by the Harrisburg Mayor to start the inaugural run 30 years earlier.
Post race activities included refreshments provided by HARRC and a
special presentation recognizing club member Jim
Honchar�s completion of 50 marathons before reaching the age of
40. Special thanks was given to Les Powell,
a founding member of HARRC, for writing and arranging the printing of
the club�s anniversary run in the June 7, 2004 edition of The
Harrisburg Patriot News.
