St. Angelo Castle
The St. Angelo Castle is located just outside the Vatican and a few blocks down from our Hotel. It was first built around 139 AD for the Emperor Hadrian, and has served many purposes throughout time. In the past it the pope used the castle as a place of safety during times of political unrest. A long, underground corridor links the castle with the Vatican Palace.
The bridge connecting the castle to the east side of the Tiber was built in the 2nd century. The walls of the bridge include ten angel statues and also statues St. Paul and St. Peter. Remember the two Saints are always together.
